The above article is an update.  Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost.  She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender.  She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined.  Lets get on the ball and spread the word.

WHY THE FUCK AREN’T PEOPLE REBLOGGING THIS??

It is absurd that we live in a world where traditional gender nonconformity is punishable by law. Transgender individuals are boys, girls, men, and women, just like all of us. This little girl is tremendously brave and self-aware to have discovered and embraced her true gender identity at such a young age; that level of emotional maturity is rare and should never, ever be discouraged. I wish more children had the pleasure of knowing as much about themselves as this child already knows about herself.

Keep on fighting, little lady. The internet is on your side.

Cases I hear like this remind me of all the most famous court cases of the past. And I wonder, ‘why this isn’t on the news newspapers everywhere..’ . It baffles me that this hasn’t already gotten a million signers. Its just as huge of ordeal as any of the others.

It’s possible that this is getting more coverage in Europe than it is in the US, because we don’t get to hear too much international news from our mainstream media over here. But even if it is being covered somewhere, there are still far too many people who are uncomfortable enough with trans individuals to look at this petition and go, “Why should I sign this? There probably is something wrong with this kid that needs to be fixed by a psychiatric professional. Let him be institutionalized until he stops being so confused.”

I’ve even talked to several people who identify as progressive who are grossed out and made uncomfortable by trans people. Even some who are LGBT-supportive. I will never understand it.

There is never, ever an excuse for attempting to take away a child’s sense of self-expression and personal identity.
